So it has been a while since I have written a blog post. While this will surely not be the last time I fail to write frequently, this will be the last time that I have a good excuse. My excuse has been that until 20 minutes ago we have not had internet in our apartment. We have been in Chile for two months and are now just getting internet! We are so excited that we are busy telling everyone that we are once again connected to the world - including you the reader of our blog. We have had some connectivity, but we had to go down 20 floors to get a slow connection, shared with the other unconnected (mostly foreign) saps in our building. Being even semi-unconnected has been very self-enlightening and its perhaps a little sad what we have found. I NEED IT! I feel like I tried being a vegetarian for two months and am finally letting myself taste steak again. That may not be a good analogy for any one out there with vegi leanings, but I like meat so its appropriate for me. Pretty sad I know, but we haven't been able to watch the Dailyshow, listen to NPR or look up at what temperature you bake chicken. Maybe it's just that we are 5952 miles away from home (I just looked that up on the internet), but it's nice to be back.
Before I sign off I would like to thank those people who helped make this happen and point out the despicable group who made it so hard. Thank you to Danilo, our Chilean-Fulbrighter-in-training who has been talking to the internet company for two months trying to get them to install the service and offered to be the Chilean responsible in case we skipped the country without paying our bills. Look for him at a US university near you starting in 2012. Thank you to our new best friends and next door neighbors Alejandro and Constanza who are letting us share their wireless internet. We don't know them too well yet, but they are very nice and have a tiny dog that I begrudgingly admit is kinda cute. And I would like to thank the academy. Finally, I would like to curse MoviStar, possibly the worst non-petroleum-based corporation ever. What sort of company ignores a dozen phone calls from people literally begging to give them money for the service they claim to provide? Everyone send them bad vibes.
So anyway, this was definitely the least informative blog post thus far, but I hope you have enjoyed my rant nonetheless. Email us, we are much more likely to respond in a timely fashion and if anyone wants to talk to us, we can actually skype now!
Cheers,
Zack
